Water Team
What We're Working on Now
We're finalizing field equipment installations before snowfall. This includes wiring the soil moisture sensors to data loggers and strengthening our infrastructure so the sensors can withstand the winter season. We are also compiling and reviewing data for the water year (Oct 1 - Sept 30), and setting up the hydrological model(s).

Discussion
The following question was submitted to the Water team for their consideration: Has SNAMP considered 'adapting' and having the water ...
Are you going to consider the impacts of climate change on hydrology?
Description
Water team members will be researching water quality and quantity across treatment and control catchments prior to, and after, treatments. They are investigating impacts of strategic fuel treatments in SNAMP study areas on water quantity and quality.
Researchers
Primary Investigators
Roger Bales
Roger Bales is at U.C. Merced and his diverse fields of research include snow hydrology, alpine hydrology and biogeochemistry, polar snow and ice, contaminant hydrology, and water quality.
Martha Conklin
Conklin is at UC Merced, and specializes in the study of water quality, water movement and the interaction of surface water and groundwater in natural settings. She has conducted extensive research in the field of organic chemical distribution in soil and groundwater and, especially important in California, the chemical processes in snow, which provides a significant portion of the state’s drinking and irrigation supply.
Graduate Student
Sarah is a graduate student at UC Merced.
Staffer
Phil is the staff hydrologist with the project.
